Tynes Quarry

Quarry restoration and ROMPS Application

The challenge

The site for this project is on the remote north coast of Cornwall in a landscape of great sensitivity. The proposal is to re-open a poorly mined quarry to utilise the poorly sorted quarry waste for usable stone and to rework the face. Later stages include a proposal to recycle green waste into compost on-site and for limited infill with inert construction material.

What we did

Westley Design worked to plan the phasing of on-site operations and to masterplan landscape reclamation, including visual impact analysis and strategy for impact mitigation, planting design, and on site water management and habitat creation. The work also included the submission of a ROMPS application.

The result

The project is currently proceeding through planning applications.
