Kingsbridge Play Strategy Brief

Play Strategy brief development

The challenge

The rural Devon coastal town of Kingsbridge was underprovided with substandard greenspaces which failed to meet the needs of either full time residents or the summer increased use caused by tourism.  Despite developing an impressive program of community consultation around the challenge, the Town Council and District Council lacked sufficient capacity and play design expertise to frame a design consultancy brief.

What we did

Following recommendation by CABE Space the Town Council and South Hams District Council appointed Westley Design to develop ( for design commission tendering purposes), a brief for play design and green space design covering four key public open spaces within the town. We then helped to select an appropriate list of firms to tender for a further phase of consultation leading to detailed site design.

The result

The process and product lead to the commission being successfully tendered and let, and detailed design for the greenspace and play areas being delivered following a community consultation.
